Custom suits, drafted and cut to you.

There's a point where altering an off-the-rack suit stops making sense — when the difference between your shoulders and the rack's is too large to close, or when you simply want a garment made rather than adjusted.

We draft and cut bespoke suits, jackets, shirts, and trousers in the shop for clients across the Sacramento region. Your measurements, your cloth, your choices on every detail — lapel, buttons, vents, pockets, lining.

Because we're an alterations shop first, we approach a commission from the fitting end. Thirty years of correcting other people's patterns is a useful education in what actually goes wrong on a real body, and it shows in the first fitting.

Commissions take longer than alterations and involve multiple fittings. If you have a date in mind, start the conversation early.

How a commission runs

The first appointment is measurement and cloth. We take a full set of measurements, talk through how you'll actually wear the garment, and go through fabric options against that.

From there the pattern is drafted and the suit is cut and basted for a first fitting — put together loosely so it can be adjusted on your body before anything is finalized. Most commissions take two to three fittings before the finishing work begins.

Allow a couple of months from first appointment to completion, longer in wedding season. If you're commissioning for a specific date, tell us the date at the first appointment.

Bespoke or altered — which you actually need

Most people don't need a bespoke suit, and we'll say so. If a well-chosen off-the-rack jacket fits your shoulders and chest, altering it will get you most of the way for a fraction of the cost.

A commission is worth it when the rack genuinely can't accommodate you — a significant drop between chest and waist, uneven shoulders, a build that stock patterns aren't drafted for — or when you want something specific enough that no rack version exists.

Come in and we'll tell you honestly which side of that line you're on.

Common questions

Custom Tailoring and Bespoke Suits — questions we're asked

How long does a custom suit take?
Allow around two months from first appointment to completion, longer during wedding season. The process runs through two to three fittings — measurement and cloth, a basted fitting, then refinement before finishing.
Do I need a bespoke suit or will alterations do?
For most people, alterations. If an off-the-rack jacket fits your shoulders and chest, altering the rest gets you most of the way at a fraction of the cost. A commission makes sense when stock patterns genuinely can't accommodate your build, or when you want something specific that doesn't exist on a rack. We'll tell you honestly which applies.
Can I choose my own fabric?
Yes. We go through cloth options at the first appointment against how you'll actually wear the garment — weight, weave, color, and season all matter more than people expect.
Do you make custom shirts as well?
Yes — made-to-measure shirts, trousers, and waistcoats alongside jackets and full suits.
