The problem is rarely one dress. It's five dresses on five different bodies that have to photograph as a matched line, ordered from the same chart but landing nowhere near the same fit.
We fit whole parties together across the Sacramento region and set the hems to a consistent proportion rather than a single number, so the line reads even in photographs even though everyone is a different height.
Turnaround is quick on bridesmaid work, and we schedule the party around the wedding date rather than around ours.

Why bridesmaid dresses always need altering
Bridal party dresses are ordered against a manufacturer's size chart, and that chart makes one measurement decide the whole dress. If a bridesmaid's bust puts her in a size twelve, she receives a twelve everywhere — waist, hip, length included — regardless of the rest of her.
The result is predictable: dresses that are correct in one place and wrong in three others. Taking them in through the bodice and waist while keeping the neckline sitting properly is the bulk of the work, and it's why nobody should assume their dress will simply fit.
Order to the largest measurement, then have it taken in. Letting a dress out is limited by the seam allowance the manufacturer left, and it's rarely generous.
Working around a scattered bridal party
Bridesmaids rarely all live in Sacramento. We're used to fitting a party in pieces — three local women fitted early, two more flying in the week of the wedding.

- One of my bridesmaids arrives the week of the wedding. Can you still fit her?
- Yes — tell us when you book the rest of the party so we know she is coming. Bridesmaid dresses are usually straightforward, so a late arrival is often workable. Call with her date and we'll tell you honestly.
- Should bridesmaids order a size up?
- Order to the largest measurement, then have the dress taken in. Bridesmaid sizing charts fit one measurement and ignore the rest, and letting a dress out is limited by however much seam allowance the manufacturer left — which usually isn't much.
- How do you make different heights look even in photos?
- We set the hems to a consistent proportion on each person rather than to one fixed measurement across the group. A single number makes a short bridesmaid look swamped and a tall one look cropped; matched proportion photographs as a line.
