We handle the whole gown in-house — no sending the beadwork out, no third party touching your dress. The same tailor who pins your first fitting finishes the last stitch, so nothing gets lost between hands.

When to book your alterations

Start earlier than feels necessary. Bridal season in the Sacramento region runs heavy from spring through October, and the calendar fills well ahead of the dates people expect.

    First fitting. Bring your wedding shoes and the undergarments you'll actually wear. This is where we pin the hem, mark the bodice, and plan the bustle.

    Second fitting. The gown comes in close to final. We refine the bodice, set the bustle points, and check how it moves when you sit and walk.

    Final fitting. Small adjustments only, then a full press. We'll walk whoever is bustling your dress through it so they can do it on the day.

What actually drives the work on a gown

Two dresses that look similar can be very different jobs. A single-layer crepe sheath is a straightforward hem. A ballgown with tulle, horsehair, a lace overlay, and a beaded edge is the same hem repeated through every layer, with the trim lifted and reset by hand afterward.

The bodice matters just as much. Taking in a plain side seam is quick work; a boned, corseted bodice with an illusion back has to be opened, re-boned, and closed so the structure still holds you the way the designer intended.

This is why we quote after seeing the gown rather than over the phone. You'll get an honest number at the first fitting, before any work starts.

What to look for in a bridal alterations specialist

Not every alterations shop should be trusted with a wedding gown, and the difference is not always obvious until it's too late. A few things worth asking anyone you're considering:

Do they work on the gown in-house, or send beadwork and lace elsewhere? Will the same person handle it start to finish? How many fittings are included, and are they scheduled in advance? Can they show you bustles they've built? Will they teach someone in your party how to bustle the dress?

Ask about the hard cases too — beaded hems, corset conversions, adding sleeves to a strapless gown, restoring an heirloom gown that's been in a box for thirty years. A specialist will have a straight answer for all of it.

How far in advance should I book wedding dress alterations?
Aim for your first fitting 8 to 12 weeks before the wedding, with two to three fittings after that. Sacramento-area bridal calendars fill up fast between spring and October, so book the appointment as soon as your gown arrives — even if the fitting itself is later.
Can you alter a heavily beaded or lace wedding dress?
Yes. Beaded and lace gowns are routine work here. On a lace hem we lift the appliqué by hand, shorten underneath, and reapply the trim so the edge looks original rather than cut. Beadwork along a seam gets removed, the seam is moved, and the beading is restored by hand.
What is a bustle and which one will my dress need?
A bustle lifts the train off the floor after the ceremony so you can move and dance. An American (over) bustle pins the train on top of the skirt; a French (under) bustle tucks it beneath; a ballroom bustle brings the hem up flush so the skirt looks floor-length all around. Which one suits your gown depends on the weight of the train and where the seams fall — we'll recommend one at your first fitting and show you the difference.
Do you take rush or last-minute wedding dress alterations?
Often, yes. We keep capacity for rush work and have turned gowns around in under a week. Call the shop as early as you can and we'll tell you honestly whether your date is workable.
What should I bring to my first bridal fitting?
Your wedding shoes and the exact undergarments you plan to wear — both change the hem and the bodice fit significantly. If someone in your wedding party will be bustling the dress, bring them to the final fitting so we can teach them.
