Bridal party · Sacramento
Mother of the bride and groom alterations.
The mothers are in more photographs than almost anyone, on their feet all day, and usually the last people anyone thinks to book a fitting for. We'd rather they were first.
Mother-of-the-bride dresses tend to need a different kind of work than the bridal party's. The fit has to be genuinely comfortable for twelve hours, not just correct standing still, and the styling often needs adjusting to suit the wearer rather than the rack it came off.
That means sleeves added or lengthened, necklines raised, coverage added through the back and shoulder, and the waist set where it's actually flattering.
We fit mothers alongside the rest of the party on the same timeline, across Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom, and the surrounding area.

Adding sleeves and coverage
The most common request we get from mothers is more coverage — a sleeveless dress that photographs beautifully on the rack but isn't what someone wants to wear through a whole wedding.
Sleeves can usually be added, and done well they look designed rather than attached. Where the dress has lace or an embellished bodice we build the sleeve from matching fabric taken from elsewhere on the garment, or source something that reads as intentional.
Necklines can be raised, backs filled in, and straps widened by the same approach. Bring the dress and tell us what you'd change about it.
Common questions
Mother of the Bride Dress Alterations — questions we're asked
- Can you add sleeves to a sleeveless dress?
- Yes, and it's one of our most common mother-of-the-bride requests. Done well it looks designed rather than added. On lace or embellished dresses we build sleeves from matching fabric taken from elsewhere on the garment where possible.
- Can you raise the neckline or add back coverage?
- Yes. Necklines can be raised or reshaped, backs filled in, and straps widened. Bring the dress and tell us what you'd change — most styling adjustments are achievable.
- When should the mothers book their fittings?
- At the same time as the bridal party, 8 to 10 weeks out. The mothers are usually booked last and it's the reason their dresses end up rushed. We'll fit them on the same coordinated timeline as everyone else.
