Evening and formal dress alterations.
Galas, benefits, black-tie events, and the Sacramento charity season — formalwear is judged closely and photographed constantly, and it shows immediately when a dress hasn't been fitted.
Evening dresses are usually cut from difficult fabric. Silk, satin, chiffon, and heavily beaded cloth all move differently under a needle, and each shows every mark left behind by a seam that has been opened and moved carelessly.
That's ordinary work here. We fit evening and cocktail wear for events across Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom, and Granite Bay, and everything is hand-finished where the finish will be seen.
If you have a recurring event calendar, tell us — regulars leave a set of measurements on file with us and we work faster for it.

Restyling a dress you already own
The most cost-effective formalwear decision is often not buying another dress. A gown that fit five years ago can usually be resized, and one that looks dated can frequently be brought current by changing the silhouette rather than the fabric.
Shortening a floor-length gown to tea or cocktail length, removing dated embellishment, reshaping a neckline, or slimming a full skirt all change how contemporary a dress reads. If it's a good fabric, it's worth the conversation.
Common questions
Formal and Evening Dress Alterations — questions we're asked
- Can you alter beaded or sequinned evening gowns?
- Yes. Beadwork along a seam is removed by hand, the seam is moved, and the beading is restored so the alteration doesn't read. It's slower work than a plain fabric, which we'll reflect in the quote.
- Can you update an older gown so it looks current?
- Often, yes — and it's usually cheaper than replacing it. Shortening the length, reshaping a neckline, slimming a skirt, or removing dated embellishment changes how contemporary a dress reads without touching the fabric that made it worth keeping.
- How long do formal dress alterations take?
- Typically about a week for standard work, longer for heavy beadwork or structural changes. Express turnaround is available by arrangement — call the shop with your event date.
