Tailoring · Sacramento
A tailor, not a hem counter.
There's a difference between a shop that shortens things and a tailor who can take a jacket apart and put it back together correctly. Sacramento has plenty of the first and very few of the second.
The distinction matters most on structured garments. Anyone can hem a trouser. Resetting a shoulder, rebalancing a jacket that hangs off to one side, moving a collar so the gap closes, or drafting a pattern from scratch — that's a different trade, and it's the one we practice.
Nadia has been doing it for over thirty years, and the shop is set up as a full workroom rather than a drop-off counter. That's what makes the harder work possible.
We're at 8889 Greenback Ln in Orangevale, inside Sacramento County — ten to twenty minutes from most of Sacramento and roughly twenty-five from downtown, with parking at the door.

How to tell a tailor from an alterations counter
Ask what they'll do to a jacket. If the answer stops at the side seams and the sleeve length, it's a counter — useful, but limited to what can be done without opening the garment's structure.
A tailor will talk about the shoulder, the balance, the collar, and the chest. Those are the alterations that decide whether a jacket actually fits, and they require unpicking and reconstructing rather than trimming.
The second test is whether they'll turn work away. Beadwork, leather, heavily structured garments, and heirloom restoration are the jobs that separate a workroom from a counter.
When a garment is worth the work
Not everything is. A fused jacket with no seam allowance left, a fabric that's gone at the stress points, a garment where the shoulder is three sizes off — sometimes the honest answer is that the work costs more than the garment is worth.
We say so. Thirty years in, there's no benefit to talking someone into an expensive repair on something that won't hold, and a straight answer is why people come back with the pieces that are worth saving.
Common questions
Alterations in Sacramento — questions we're asked
- What's the difference between a tailor and an alterations shop?
- An alterations shop adjusts a garment without opening its structure — hems, side seams, sleeve length. A tailor can take the garment apart: reset a shoulder, rebalance a jacket, correct a collar gap, or draft and cut a new garment from scratch. We do both.
- Do you make bespoke garments as well as alter them?
- Yes. We draft and cut bespoke suits, jackets, shirts, and trousers in the shop to your measurements, with fabric consultation and multiple fittings through the build.
- Will you tell me if a garment isn't worth altering?
- Yes, and we do regularly. If the fabric has gone at the stress points or there's no seam allowance left to work with, we'll say so rather than take on a repair that won't hold.
- How far are you from downtown Sacramento?
- Downtown is roughly twenty-five minutes via Highway 50 or I-80. Worth knowing, though: we're inside Sacramento County, and most of Sacramento — Arden-Arcade, Foothill Farms, Rosemont — is only ten to twenty. We're at 8889 Greenback Ln in Orangevale, with parking directly outside.
